A prosthetic is a mechanical equipment adapted to reproduce the shape, and as possible, the function of a lost or absent member.
- Our Center provides training after undergoing an amputation of the lower extremity, in preparation to use a prosthetic leg. This training requires conditioning of the stump, prior to the use of the prosthesis, and later training in ambulation with the prosthesis
An Orthotic includes different equipments that may include braces, splints, calipers, and corsets. Depending of its design, an Orthotic may totally immobilize a joint or body segment, restrict movement in a given direction, control mobility, assist with movement, or reduce weight-bearing forces. Depending of the medical condition an Orthotic can: provide support, prevent deformities or contractures, reduce pain and assist in ambulation.
